Child Support

Child support can be one of the most frequent issues in a domestic relations case and is often a repeating issue.  Many variables can go into a calculation, including income, day care expenses, health insurance expenses, overnights, adjustments for additional children, etc.  More variables mean more opportunity for adjustments and arguments.  Incomes are frequently changing, child care expenses can be complicated, and overnights are rarely calculated with laser precision.

Whether you find yourself in a complicated financial situation that requires a detailed analysis of significant income from various assets, or you’re an hourly employee, Laura’s detailed approach to the numbers ensures you’ll get an accurate child support calculation.

You may also find yourself in a situation where the other party isn’t paying their Court-Ordered child support or is attempting to conceal income.  Laura’s experience with respect to both issues and aggressive trial and discovery approach can help put you in a situation to succeed, despite the insubordination of the other party.

Maintenance/Alimony

Maintenance, or formally alimony, can be one of the scariest parts of a divorce.  Maintenance is based on parties’ respective incomes, and length of marriage.  However, it’s so much more than that, both from a technical standpoint of the calculation of income and the mental standpoint of its direct impact on your pocketbook.  Whether you’re seeking maintenance, or your soon-to-be ex-spouse is, what you receive or pay is likely the most significant indicator of the kind of lifestyle you’ll live once your divorce is over and you’re moving forward.

You may find yourself in a dissolution of marriage where maintenance is an issue, or you may need a modification or termination of your previous maintenance order.  Laura has extensive experience dealing with both, and can help put you in a position to move forward in a financially positive manner.

Property Division

Property Division is an integral part of a dissolution of marriage.  You may have a home, business, bank accounts, rental properties, cars, personal property, frequent flyer miles, or anything else under the sun that needs to be valued and divided and/or accounted for.  You need someone who can accurately value your assets, and fairly divide them.  But more importantly, you need someone that listens to your goals for the future and finds a way to get you the property you need to accomplish your goals.  Whether you need cash, retirement, or a home for your children, Laura can help you retain the assets that you need to move forward in a way that’s most advantageous to you and your family.

Parenting Time and Decision Making

Parenting time and decision making shape the way you raise your child.  While it’s always best to try to work things out amicably, custody issues are often the most contentiously litigated issues in a case.  It’s important to choose an attorney that has both an eye for problem-solving and a drive for settlement, as well as an aggressive strategy for trial, should negotiations break down.

Choosing to fight for your children often means that you’re entering into a stressful and expensive situation with limited or unknown expectations for results.  To get the most out of the process, you need an attorney that understands your values and goals for your children’s future.  Laura excels in building relationships with clients that allow for a deep understanding of the vision parties have for their children, and the time they spend with them.

Laura has experience in the drafting of very detailed Parenting Plans, as well as the litigation of extremely high-conflict custody matters.

Protection Orders

Protection Orders can be one of the most emergent issues in domestic relations.  You may find yourself in desperate need of protection from another individual, or you may find yourself facing allegations that you’ve done something to warrant your restraint.  While these issues often get sorted out quickly, a Permanent Protection Order is a very serious matter.  If you have been served with a Temporary Protection Order, or if you need to obtain and serve one on a party, Laura is available to immediately assist with these issues.
